VTS Is a Finalist In The World Bank's Lighting Africa Contest
15 Field Trails Lead to Planned ImprovementsThe PedalGenerator ran fifteen field trials starting a year ago (2007) with Version 2. Based on the trials, we improved both the mechanical and electrical designs, and will build a limited number of Version 3 this year (2008).
Currently VTS is designing a new circuit board and associated code for the 'PowerCentre', the name given to the box and circuitry that holds the 12 V battery, and is essentially the heart of the EcoPower system.
New
Opportunities
There
are several opportunities
to help bring light to people around the world. Lighting Africa is one. VTS
work in Haiti is another. In
conjunction
with the One
Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program, the VTS EcoPower system is
renewable
energy source for recharging laptop computer batteries.
WireBridge
Success
The WireBridge is a new
application of an old proven technology - using a gondola that is
pulled on wire cable.
Organizations that have funded one or more WireBridges,
including Nepal
School Projects (Canada), Kadoorie Agricultural Aid Association (Hong
Kong), the
German Embassy, Fonds Parvati (Belgium), CARE, and Bridges to
Prosperity (USA).
